Unhappy LE2005 ibook G3 no bootable HDD

I have an ibook G3 600, and wanted to install single boot linux. Install went off without a hitch, except when I tried to reboot when install was finished. It did, but went to that flashing question mark screen. I'm using the yaboot bootloader that came with the latest LE2005 version. I've tried messing around in the linux prompt, with no success. If I press command while booting, it shows no bootable devices (yes, hd is "gone"). I can only boot to linux prompt via the LE2005 cd. I'm a windows guy trying to install linux on a mac, so I'm way out of my league. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not quite the same thing, but I tried to install Mandriva for PPC on a G4 and it did the same thing. However, yellow dog linux installed flawlessly and works just fine for me. Also, Debian for ppc did ok but wasn't quite as good as yellow dog.
