Laptop not shutting down

I know there's a program out there that shuts your laptop completely down as in turns the power off. Right now it just gos to the very end where is says "Power off" and hangs.
Can anyone tell me what it is , maybe even where to get it.
Im running 9.2 power pack and would of thought it would be on one of the cds

Does your Laptop use ACPI or APM?

If its ACPI like mine you need to enable it. But to be honest Im having a hell of a time with ACPI in MDK9.2 I got it working in 9.1 no problem.

If I enable it in lilo I get an error:

kernel panic
unable to find DSTD (or was it DTDS?) in initrd.img

still try to get it working.

No it's a mod. I had what I thought was the same problem. Man9.1 switches right away as does windoze. It appears they have added lattency to stop accidental switch off.

Perhaps its a bug though as really a halt should switch off completely as it did power down properly in 9.1 and 9.2 beta 2.

You hold the key down for 8 seconds to power down.

Ya I tried using acpi instead of amp with the same results and I saw your question ac_dispatcher when I was looking for answers. Ok thanks I guess I'll just half to use the power button to finish off the shutdown . One more thing that suse does that mandrake doesnt.
