LAN traffic freezes Mandrake 10

Hi!

My roommate has WinXP running and I have recently installed Mandrake 10. We both have Realtek 8139 (I believe C) network interfaces.

The problem is following:

Network starts normaly, I can access to his shared folders (samba) and he can access mine, apache works, etc. But, everything works fine while there is no substantial network load. When I try to transfer file larger than 10 MB my Mandrake freezes. Mouse, keyboard (NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, CRTL+ALT+BACKSPACE doesn't work) and of course network stop responding. Only manual (hardware) restart helps.

I have no idea what's the problem.

Few weeks ago, when I was running Mandrake 9.2 everything worked fine.

Thank you in advance
Mario

I have more or less identical things happening, at first I though it was the machine, since it was one that I built from scap, but anothers doing exactly the same and that worked on 9.2, the only comman thing between them is these realtek cards.....

in response to network problems

The problem is the onboard network card. Nvidia MB's especially have this problem. I bought a 5.00 card
on pricewatch.com that fixes the continuous headachey freezes by the network. It is also on mandrakeexperts
site under hardware. Its the D-link DFE-530tx+ 10/100. Mandrake calls it a 538tx but it works without
the freezes. Took me a while on this problem seeing as how I have MDK10 and an NForce2 MB.
This should work even if its not an onboard LAN. Just replace with one
on that list.

ciao and hope this helps --Jareth
