Question kppp works, can't get on to internet

I have Mandrake Linux 1.0 Official, In KDE , I have configured KPPP with my dial-up Internet Service Providers settings, the I.P. , DNS and Gateway are all automatic assigned from the ISP Server.
My modem is a 3Com ISA, that is "not" a winmodem.
I can connect fine to my ISP, however, I can not get to any Web page using the Konqueor browser, it keeps saying "unknown host"
Any ideas?
Thank You for your time.

Sounds like it might be a firewall problem. Are you using the Shorewall (the default) firewall with MDK? If so, then that is likely to be the pproblem. I ditched Shorewall in favour of a plain old iptables script and that works just fine. If kppp gets you connected, then kppp has performed its function and you are now looking at another problem. Hence, I'd suggest checking out the firewall.

try to ping an address on the internet..

If that works you probably have a dns problem. This could be a firewall blocking it or the /etc/resolv.conf file is not setup correctly.

I had the same problem when I had Mandrake 9.1 installed - I could connect to my ISP, but couldn't go out to surf the internet!
The problem is not so much the firewall configuration (although if you set it at "paranoid", it will give you trouble!) as the DNS settings. Make sure that you configure the modem to accept the DNS settings from the ISP, i.e. let the ISP act as your DHCP server and assign an IP address to you. Otherwise your setting will conflict with the one the ISP server is handing to you, and all you get for your trouble is being able to authenticate your connection with the ISP, like you have just now.

I don't have Mandrake installed any longer, so I can only suggest that you head for the control center and configure your modem there. If that doesn't work, use the guidelines from the previous post. If still no-go, post again and I'll see what I can do to help using my live distro of Mandrake.

Thank You for all of your replies, my problem turned out to be that my caller id "blocker" was turned on, the free dial up ISP that I use, halts all traffic from going out to the internet cloud, if you have your caller id "blocker" on, I guess they have this in there free TOS (Terms of Service) so that spammers and the like can't hide (as much) Everything is running really well. I thank everyone who has responded to my thread.
