I've always wondered why people keep formatting their Linux boxes for even simple problems. The most destructive thing you ever need to do to clear a messed up config of something is delete the relevant .folder in your home director(ies). Eg. if you really mess up your Firefox config and firefox won't start (its happened to me recently) you just need to delete the .mozilla folder in your home (you need to enable 'View Hidden Files' in the View menu on konqueror to see it). The only time you would ever need to format is if you've gone in as root and accidentally deleted a large chunk of a system directory such as /usr (I did this once), but if you don't run as root you won't have this problem. </rant>

To get Java goto http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp get the RPM and follow the instructions linked on that page http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#rpm

The correct mozilla directory is /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/, as plugins in there can be used by firefox (all versions), mozilla, konqueror, galleon or most other browsers which support mozilla browser plugins.
