Actually I was able to configure Mozille successfully to work with Java. I reinstalled Java stuff from their website and followed instruction (very precise and understandable) to the T. It works in Mozilla, but Konqueror still sucks...

for Konqueror & Java............

open Konqueror in web browsing mode. go to "settings"->"configure konqueror"->"web browsing"->"java & java script" and in the box where it asks for "path to java", point it to the correct path to your java installation directory. the path will be similar to this.........

/usr/local/j2re1.4.2/bin/java

just adjust the path & Java version number to reflect your install. make sure "scan for plugins globally" is checked & then click the "scan for new plugins" button. set the scan to the directory to where your java is installed, or choose one or more of the choices in the selection box. click "apply", "ok", close Konqueror, restart, test Java.

NOTE: you can also accomplish the same thing using Kontrol Center (IE: configure your desktop). just go to "system"->"web browsing"-> and continue as above.

I was finally able to set up Java in Konqueror following directions in the last post. Thank you for your patience, time and time again I find Linux forums extremely helpful (of course if one has enough patience to follow the topic). Thanks! Now onto setting up my WLAN card

I have fc3 on Intel IA32 platform. I used /usr/java/jre1.5.0_04/bin/java from Sun. It doesn't worked after I restarted Konquerer, but only after I rebooted the machine...I don't why...Try java at http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

I thought your post was great. (especially the mention of the wife) Women by default are programmed to get angry when guys are on PC's for some reason. They would prefer to see a guy suffering mowing the grass or cleaning the house. Hey its just a joke, for any women who might be reading. Women in a higher percentage do not find computers to be that facinating for some reason.

1) download and istall java from www.java.com

the directory is /usr/java/j2....

2) Go to Configure Konqueror --> Java and Java Script --> Enbale Java Globally is checked, then I update plugins and pages with Java applets still don't work. Good thing I have a dual boot system with WinXP...

I like Mandrake a lot, but I hate to say it, being "crippled" in certain applications under Linux (including terrible Wi-Fi support) makes it really hard to get away from Windoze. May be I am just venting my frustration after hours of screwing around with this and pissing off my wife by getting consumed with "fixing little things" in Linux...
