Keyboard fails, X is a Hog, when Mandrake Autologin on.
Hello all...
Everytime I build X from source....and Mandrake (9.1) autologins my default user (into KDE) , the keyboard is non-functional, and X uses 100% of idle CPU time. However, if I log out, I then get keyboard control, at which time I can manually log in and the *poof* keyboard works fine, and X only burns about 10% of CPU.. Any suggestion greatly appreciated. I have had similar problems installing/upgrading x using the packages from x.org.
It seems to me Mandrake really hates upgrading to a non-mandrake supplied version of X. The only successful way I have ever been able to ugrade X in Mandrake is to use the RPMs sourced from urpmi. The most successful I have been upgrading from the standard X packages was if I selected to keep ALL the previous config files. This *kinda* works. The login screen (which uses TWM if Im not mistaken) was wierd, and some other things didn't look/work as they should. This IMO is one of the worst things about Mandrake. I think its a great distro, but I hate how they modify things like the Kernel and X, and then make it hard to upgrade to non Mandrake modified versions. Pls let me know if I am wrong about this, if there is a way to upgrade to standard packages, I would like to know about it. Hope this helps. |
