i've installed mandrake 9.2 and now i'm trying to compile the driver for my intel e1000 ethernet card. i've also added the kernel sources for the same version but something is not right.
when running 'make install' in the driver directory i get an error saying
>Warning: kernel source configuration (SMP)
>does not match running kernel (UP)
>Continuing with build,
>resulting driver may not be what you want
as a result the compiled driver is put into the wrong /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/... path and can not be found by the system.
so i then uninstalled the smp kernel, hoping to resolve the issue, but it didn't work.
here is what i tried to verify things are the way they should be:
uname -r -> 2.4.22-10mdk
uname -a -> Linux server 2.4.22-10mdk #1 Thu Sep 18 12:30:58 CEST 2003 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux
i'm rather sure i have the same version kernel source installed cause when i search for the installed rpms (in rpmdrake-remove) then the only package that matches 'source' is kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.
please help to resolve this version mixup. i don't care which version i end up with, as long as it is consistent within my system.
will installing later-version kernel and source rpms resove my problem (as recommended at
http://www.zebulon.org.uk/urpmi_en.html)?
this might be a problem cause the machine doesn't have any network access until the driver is compiled right. the last kernel update i tried to do (urpmi) requried access to a mirror server.
thanks for any help,
T
