kernel version

I have a pentium4 with hyperthreading and 1 GB of RAM, should I therefore be using the enterprise kernel as opposed to the normal one?

thanks,

The kernel is just the kernel, pretty much all of them should be the same as you can customize and compile what you need, etc. Unless Mandrake has their own version where they've compiled other source code to be included or added for some kind of Enterprise kernel...

Might just be the preconfigured kernel's then. Last time I installed Mandrake was 7.0 so not sure bout that really.

Any kernel though you should be able to compile to suit your needs as all of them can support more than one processor and more than 800megs for RAM.

Cheers.

I ended up using the enterprise kernel with MDK 9.2 since i have 1GB RAM. I also needed to specify at install setup "mem=1024M" or the resulting installed system would be FUBAR. With the enterprise kernel you may want to remake the initial ramdisk (initrd) to get the purdy bootsplash.
I ended up compiling a custom kernel since MDK would not shut down the system and enabled APM to make real-time BIOS calls. I used the config-enterprise in /boot/ and modified to my needs.
But I would recommend using the enterprise kernel since it has support for 1GB or more configurations.
