Kernel Update, getting 9700 Pro to work

Please excuse any stupid questions or points i might make im still a noob.
Ive got Mandrake 9.1 all configured great except for 1 thing, my graphics card. i have an all in wonder 9700 pro. I just want to enable the card to run as powerfully as it can as right now i cant even run any games..it took me a while to finally get into the graphical enviroment with my card but i figured that out with much help from others...
I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, running on the Nforce chipset..my kernel version is 2.4.21...from my understanding this kernel does not have support for the Nforce chipset but 2.4.22 does...Am i correct and if so can anyone refer me to a good document on how to update my kernel...
i have also been following this guide (its one of the posts about 6 down by washe) but i couldnt execute this command
patch -p1 < linux-2.4.21-agpgart.diff
if that guide worked i assume i wouldnt even have to update the kernel

Thanks

have you tried updating your Mandrake 9.1 through the control center?

Have you tried going to you control center and adding a new RPM and search alphabetically for kernel-source?
