First it sounds to me as if the kernel sources have not been installed. If they have, you should have a /usr/src/linux and a /usr/src/linux-2.6.3-4mdk path on your system. You report there is only /usr/src/RPM.
Have you installed the kernel-source-2.6.3-4mdk package ?
If not, use the Install Software utility to install it, then open a terminal window, and do the following commands:
cd /usr/src/linux <ENTER>
su <ENTER>
Enter your root password <ENTER>
make xconfig <ENTER> [this will give you a GUI kernel configuration utility
make dep <ENTER> [I believe this will return a message indicating make dep is not required in kernel 2.6.x]
make clean bzImage <ENTER> [capital i in bzImage]
make modules <ENTER>
make modules_install <ENTER>
make install <ENTER>
If all proceeds with no errors, you should have a 2.6.3-4custom kernel installed, and you should be able to restart the system to load it [should have a menu entry in the lilo boot screen something like 263-4custom].
Alright I did what you said and it make the linux directoy :-)
Well wouldn't you know that the custom thing doesn't work, but the good thing is updated my enterprise also, and that works without problems.
Ok, I say without problems but my original problem still remains, it says config.in doesn't exist still... so I went and checked and sure enough it isn't in that directory. Do I need to make this file? If so, how?
EDIT:
Compiling 2.6.4 right now... hope my: sound, scroll mouse, & internet : all work Maybe I will get lucky and config.in will actually be placed in the folder this time around, lol!
Maybe I'm lonely... maybe its 5 am in the morning... maybe I am just wierd, but I am posting to say I am about to reboot my computer and go into... linux... kernal 2.6.4... Will it work? Nobody knows!
Then again I am a n00b at compiling but I can sure hope!!
EDIT: (I am getting good at using this edit button)
Well it worked, except there is still no config.in! Where in the world can I get this stupid file!?
