KDE4 Preview?
I've just installed Mandriva 2008.1 RC2 as guest OS using VMware. I see that a KDE4 preview is included. Can anyone direct me how to update to the preview and actually load it? I know that it is too early for reliable use, but, since this Mandriva installation is on a virtual disk, I feel a little more freedom to experiment.
Thanks. BTW, I haven't used Mandriva much at all, so consider me a raw noob. I do have several years of experience with other Linux distros, however. |
To add KDE 4 you need to set up the official online repositories. Installing the kdebase4 package should add most of KDE 4.

You need to remove KDE3. I don't know what effect this will have, please make sure you have backed up any valuable data you wish to keep.

I'll try to remove KDE3 and see what happens. |
I don't think that you need to remove KDE 3.5.7. At the login screen you should be able to select KDE4 from the session menu.

Try searching for the package called task-kde4. If there is such a package that should install everything needed.

Provided you've set up a cooker/contrib source from a mirror site, searching in rpmdrake for 3.93 should display the KDE4 packages.
Jim I've just read that task-kde4 packages are supposed to be released to the mirrors shortly. |
