KDE wont start..

My KDE hasnt been starting lately.. just jumps back to kdm after login every time...

It turns out to be related to full diskspace in "/" ...

I found some help on the net telling mr to delete logs and som other minor stuf.. but the biggest catalogue was (found it with "du -chx --max-depth=1") /var/ftp w contained a TON of .rpms

Emptying them just gave me my life back

Isnt this crazy...? how come this can happen without warning? Maybe i should resixe my / partition?

Maybe you should. You might also want to run something like Gkrellm. It's a kickass (skinable) system/process/hardware..etc..etc..monitor.

Check it out here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...m/gkrellm.html

The logrotate package handled this problem. See its description in the package manager.

Creating space on / didnt seem to be a permanent solution. Ive been trying to get past KDM quite a few times and had sucess only on my latest try booting into KDE, this time AIGLX and 3ddesktop were inactivated. I havent tried reactivating them.. Could there be any connection between my problem and 3ddesktop`?

Anyways ill try the gkrellm thingy next time and keep this thread posted.

3D desktop also caused logon problems for me. So, yes, it's likely the cause.
