Ok.... A simple solution ...
I started konqueror as root, browsed to my /home/uname folder, found .kde and renamed it to .kde-bak
Kde rewrote the .kde folder instantly, and presto! my problem was corrected. I have to hand it to KDE, Mandriva, And the Linux community, Solving such an annoyance with windoze involves one of three things, replacing several files, editing a long list of registry keys, or reinstalling the entire operating system.
