kde menu refuses to update

Gurus,
I'm having an issue with Mandrake 9.2 running KDE 3.x. The K menu is not showing all the entries it should be. I can run menudrake and see that everything is still there (as in two weeks ago the menu was fine - suddenly items are missing). I can make a simple change, save the change but with no affect to the menu. I've also done an update-menus from the CL as both root and a normal user. The last thing I tried was to switch over to the standard KDE K menu. This changed the menu but it did not show many of the apps that should be there. So to recap: The menu is not showing some apps, the menu editor says the apps are there, update-menus does not update. Oh, one more thing. When running menudrake from the CL, I received a "call failed" after menudrake tried to update the menu after I saved a change, but update-menus does not give any error at all. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can try next?

Many Thanks in Advance :o)

Have you already run through Mandrake Update to get all available patches? I've had experiences with 9.2 loosing all but a very generic looking and barely populated menu after applying a bunch of updates but then once I went into the menu editor and reset it, it was fine. When it would flake out mine would display just a blue folder icon for each category (system, internet, etc) and did not have even half the normal applications displayed.

if you have gotten all the updates as suggested, here's another option to try........

(bear with me. i'm at work & don't have Linux in front of me, so you may have to adjust some of my instructions here. but, i think i'll be pretty close)

right click on the Kicker star/K & choose the menu editor. now, in the options on the top tool bar there's something like "stye" or "type" & "environment" . check those out & make sure the settings are set to show system wide menus instead of just KDE or MDK specific. you'll see what i mean when you look there. after each change you make click the "save" button, not after you make several changes. don't ask me why, but that matters for some reason. after all changes are made, a restart of KDE may be needed to make them take effect.
