kde

hello,
when i use mandriva control centre to have kde start i get the following problem:
After boot up i login my details...and hey presto after the nvidia splash screen i get to the enter login details again.....please help. I use mandrive le (10.2) 64 edition. I have a 6800 gt g/card with an asus sli mobo...ps. gnome runs just fine, but what wont run is TUXRACER, which i am told could mean certain graphics card incompatibilities..is this correct ?
many thanks...steve.

I have a feeling that the login issue is related to kdm(k display manager). When you are at the login screen, type "ctrl+alt+F1" you will now see the command line. login as a user and try the commands 'gdm' or 'xdm'. If you have an always-on internet connection and dont have gdm or xdm installed you can use urpmi to install those, i.e type 'urpmi gdm' or 'urpmi xdm'.

Alternatively, since you say you have gnome working(which i read just now!!), you can open
mandriva cc->system->Choose the display manager....->see what options you have should have something like KDM(or mdkkdm),GDM and XDM, try changing the default option to something else and see if kde works.

Hope this helps

kde

hello,
i have used the control centre to try to change over to kde but the i have to keep entering my login details, there is a frantic attempt on the moniter to show the nvidia splash screen, and then i am back to the login screen. My video card is set at a 6800 ultra but my actual card is a 6800 gt, and after i select the correct card, the pc logs me off the the command line thingy, and i cant log back in using my details....so i have to trpe startx ? I must admit, if i choose gnome then i get the nvidia splash screen at the start, but i am still confused as to whether it is working correctly, due to not being able to "play" tuxracer(i was told that if i get problems, its normally incorrectly set up g card ?).
I guess most would say...tuff, stick with gnome....but i am sure there is an underlying problem as i have had kde up and running on another linux type.
Many thanks for any help given.
BTW. i have tried your sugestion but to no avail...but thanks anyhow...steve.
