KDE 3.4 Install

I am about to reinstall Mandrake on my computer. The last time I installed Mandrake, I saw there was an option for a 4th CD (KDE 3.3). Currently there is a KDE 3.4 release. Is there a place I can get a KDE 3.4 CD? If so, can I install it from the inital install, or do I have to install it via my URPMI sources after I get Mandrake installed?

Do yourself a favor and steer clear of KDE 3.4 until they come out with a mdk rpm, unless you know how to build from src files. I blew up my Mandrake 10.1 official install trying to use the unofficial rpm build of KDE 3.4 and had to reinstall from scratch. I discovered after the fact that many, many folks across the Web experienced the same probs that I did, it's quite prevalent.

Just a heads up.

Yes, wait for an OFFICIAL KDE 3.4 release and don't use the one the Mandrake CD's. Also don't use the Thac's RPMs for Mandrake 10.1. They do not work fully and they can break your system, as many people here have found out. ONe tool that I used was the Konstruct tool from the KDE website. It compiles from source for you but it takes a long time. About 3 hours, but in the end my KDE 3.4 works fine.

not that I'm going to do it, but what where the steps that you use with konstruct to upgrade to kde 3.4 and have it working?

RySk8er30: I tried once the update to kde 3.3 from the discs, it did not worked properly and menudrake did not worked afterwards, I also tried Thacs and after a long and interesting experience with thacs, I decided that It was better to wait for an official mandrake release with kde 3.3 (I know they will not have 3.4 in their limited edition release due in a month or so but then again, If you want to be in the bleeding edge, you should be aware that it may not work
and / or some other things will break.

Thacs repositories are just maintained for that purpose...bleeding edge but you'll pay a price in stability, then again, I'm not dissing Thacs for his effort, because he is providing a service to the community.

I've used Thac's X.org 6.8 and it worked fine on my system. It's a risk you take since it's not official, but if you're willing to experiment, then try Thac's RPMs
