I had recently upgraded KDE to 3.4.0 using a Thac RPM.
When I installed everything and restarted everything looked fine. Well almost. All of my menus were not in alphabetical order and were not sorted correctly (folder menus were mixed with just plain links to a program menus sorted with the menu editor but didnt take).
Anyway, I could deal with that, but when i went to shutdown to log back into windows (for my games since i havent found a good emulator yet) there was no option for this, only to logoff session no restart etc.
I attempted to uninstall KDE 3.4.0 to revert back to 3.2 but started more problems. When I logged back in, the taskbar was plain and not KDE style and all my desktop icons were gone.
So I attempted to use another gde called Enlightenment. I installed and restarted to get it up and running. I have no idea how to use it and dont like it, but I cant figure out how to remove it and just reinstall KDE 3.2 since I didnt have many problems (some lockups but no patterns)
Please help me out I dont want to reinstall if I dont have to. If I have to, I will try another distro since I burned about 4 different versions.
Two days ago I upgrade my Mandrake Linux 10.0 from KDE 3.2 to KDE 3.4 to do so first I uninstall KDE 3.2 and later compile KDE 3.4 from source after that I could start an x session only from root 'cause from my user account the X server crash yet I don't know why. then I found two solutions:
The fisrt one: switch to run level 3 and start X manually from console issue these commands:
shell> export DISPLAY=:0
shell> X:0
then switch to another session and issue startkde that works fine for my but when i want either restart or shutdow my box only appear Logoff like your box, thi is really annoying
The second one: I just create a new user and login as it... everything works fine I now can restart computer, shutdow computer and logoff computer
Then I think the problem is in /home/.kde and related directories
Well if your a Mandriva Club member you can now download a set of iso's that will upgrade your version of Mandriva to the latest with KDE3.4. Works like a charm and you don't need Thac's RPMS.
