yes

actually i got it compiled right.

maybe you are missing some of the devel-packages for your system
i just had no clue where to put the files after compiling and how to adjust the paths
there is a nice manual for installing kde3.x under a new kdedev called user.
including all the steps to do afterwards, to make it run, without affecting
the .kde in the homedir

did you go into ~/konstruct/meta/kde and just run make ??

did you read the readme supplied in the folder ?
did you lookup the kde homepage and installed all required packages for compiling
--> http://www.kde.org/info/requirements/3.3.php

just keep on

I've just managed to install it fro a Mandrake 10.1 CE DVD that I have. I added the folder with KDE 3.3 to my urpmi sources (selected as local files) and then chose "install packages" and filtered the packages by "update availability" in rpmdrake. I found that a few packages wouldn't upgrade (e.g kdevelop, libkdecore) and I had to force their installation on the command line. Everything works fine at the moment excpt KDM which won't take keyboard input at times.

my kde did not start anymore at all.
it always brought me back to the XDM logon screen
maybe using a forced kpackage installation resolves some of the conflicts

actually some of the packages from the main source (http://easyurpmi.zarb.org)
were even newer than the ones on the cd, e.g. kde-xxx-3.3.0-8

well, there is.. somehow the rpms are on CD4
in a folder called kde3.3
do you have it ??

otherwise, you could also use the cooker rpms
which should be mostly up-2-date , but sometimes instabile.
i cannot recommend you using 10.0 rpms as well, but there is
one 3.3 repo, called thacs, plus find more sources to here.

I downloaded 10.1 community. There were only 3 discs. How do I go about getting the 4th one and installing KDE 3.3 that way?

mdkdm

I don't like MDKKDM, so I am just using "startx" until I find and if I don't it'll have to be GDM.

I see a lot of KDE 3.3 RPMs

You can check the packages you currently installed through rpmdrake (the remove software part) and download those inot a folder and add the folder to your urpmi sources as a "local files"

you have to be a club member for CD4
or you find it on ed2k net or elsewhere

there are just some apps missing, which really make 10.1 more decent,
such as amarok.. which does not build on my 10.0 machine.
or the new 268 kernel e.g.

if you go to ... http://thebrix.org.uk you will find a repository from thacs,
he has kde3.3 built for mandrake 10.0
and there are many more cookers online who do a great job.
e.g implying java and many other substile apps that miss on a 10.0 CE
if you find out how urpmi works, its a good choice overviewing and installing
an up-2-date system, that rocks :-)

..... unless i will switch to another distro soon, i hate to build packages for a system,
which do not comply with the lsb (?? donīt kill me when I am wrong),
the kernel is overpatched and the packages are built for 8086 machines.
