kcmshell not working from control centre, screensavers missing?
Hello all,
For some reason known only to itself, my box has suddenly lost its screensavers in kde. If I click on the screensaver icon in control panel, all of the screensavers have disappeared. I have followed all of the advice I have been able to find so far to no avail. Tried all the symlink tricks on other posts of this problem, and still nothing. But, if I run the following command: kcmshell LookNFeel/screensaver, then up pops the screensaver box with all screensavers present, but I still can't use them from within KDE except to test them out. FYI, I have neither installed nor removed any packages/software etc for more than 3 months, so it's nothing that I can put my finger on as to why this has happened. Any and all suggestions gratefully received
TIA

45 views and still no reply? this is very unusual. Does this mean everyone is completely stumped by my problem, and should I therefore submit a bug report to KDE/Mandrake?

I have the same problem, though I'm using debian. The list of screensavers that were installed on my system is gone I don't know why, but if I log as a different user or create one, screensavers appear ok. It must be some trrouble with the configuration files in the home directory. Still looking for a solution...

Mandrake seems to have some sort of fetish for deleting it's link to the KDE Screensaver directory.
As root in a terminal/console you will need to re-add the symlink to get them to re-appear in the list of available screensavers.
Code:
[root@server scripts]# ln -s /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/ /usr/share/applnk-mdk/System/ScreenSavers
