"/usr/bin/mkisofs: Connection reset by peer. cannot fwrite 32768*1"

Have you disabled the automount daemon?

Mandrake may be attempting to automount your drive while you are trying to write to it which will cause burning problems and issues.

i've seen a message that ATAPI burner is not supported and that can be resolved by SCSI emulation. don't know how to do that though.

You can tell the kernel to load/enable SCSI emulation support for a specific IDE device by passing the "hdX=scsi" (where 'X' is the drive letter of your IDE device to emulate) parameter to the kernel at boot time.

I kind of understand what it's saying, but how do I tell it to do that?

Found this on this guy's blog:

http://mandrake.badopi.org/node/view/766

http://www.k3b.org/

Do not use Kernel 2.6.8

A patch that was introduced into the kernel shortly before the 2.6.8 release
makes K3b and also the dvd+rw-tools unusable on Linux (unless run as root
but that is not recommended). The very important GET CONFIGURATION MMC
command is rejected by the kernel for reasons I cannot see and writing
commands like MODE SELECT also fail (K3b cannot detect CD writers without
it) even when the device is opened O_RDWR. Until this issue has been solved
I strongly recommend to stick to kernel version 2.6.7.

Update: The kernel guys are currently fixing the problem so the next kernel
release should work again.

Update 2: The problem is NOT fixed in 2.6.8.1

Update 3: Be aware that kernel 2.6.8 also contains the memory leak which
makes it impossible to write audio cds, even as root.

Strange, I've already burned plenty of DVD's and CD's using Mandrake 10.1 and the same kernel, so this may not always apply.

Also the number of K3B not working, posts here seems to be quite low for such a big bug...

I have NOT tried audio disks yet... I guess I'll now have to...

----

Micro420

append="acpi=ht splash=silent"

Change to

append="acpi=ht hdc=scsi splash=silent"

Then run lilo from the command line as root.

Also you have acpi turned off, you REALLY want to enable it if your system does not hang up with it on.

After you have rebooted again go back and edit the lilo.conf file and this time try...

append="hdc=scsi splash=silent"

And again run lilo.

If Linux freezes on you after doing this, reboot and select the non-fb kernel then go back and put this line as it was previously, then again run lilo.

This was probably fixed in 2.8.1-12mdk

Mandrake applies their own kernel patches which are part of the RPM provided.

I'm burning audio disks as I write this w/o problems using a stock Mandrake 10.1 so the above is not true for 10.1.

YES!! I got my k3b working! Thanks to you that posted as there were no direct answers, but many steps that helped lead me to get my k3b working. Without your posts, I wouldn't have solved it. So what I did:

1) Edit /etc/lilo.conf file

(**the RED color is what I add/modified**)

Code:
# File generated by DrakX/drakboot
# WARNING: do not forget to run lilo after modifying this file

default="linux"
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
keytable=/boot/us.klt
prompt
nowarn
timeout=100
message=/boot/message
menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw
image=/boot/vmlinuz
        label="linux"
        root=/dev/hdb1
        initrd=/boot/initrd.img
        append="acpi=ht hdc=ide-scsi splash=silent"
        vga=788
        read-only
#####/dev/hdc is my CD-RW. It may be different for you guys. In the k3b setup, my device interface was ATAPI. Since I added that line, ide-scsi, k3b now says that my interface is a GENERIC SCSI. Also, I changed in the k3b setup in the devices section for the cdrao driver. I chose GENERIC-MMC.

Then in terminal I ran as root:
Code:
lilo -v
Then I rebooted my computer since I got no errors.

Then I checked my /etc/fstab file:

Code:
/dev/hdb1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb6 /back2 ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb7 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom2 auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0
/dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom3 auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/removable auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,kudzu,codepage=850,noauto,exec,users 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb5 swap swap defaults 0 0
#####my /dev/hdc is now /dev/sr0. I have no idea, but Mandrake 10.1 automatically changed that.

I booted into Mandrake 10.1 then ran k3b. I then chose a new data project and then went into the advanced tab. I then check boxed all the characters under the UNTRANSLATED FILENAMES. I then clicked BURN and it works now! Hope this helps somebody else out.

This also helped me out even though it's for Mandrake 9.1:
