K3b Mandrake 9.1
Need to use Burner program K3b
Applications> Archiving>CD Burning> K3b setup. My RICOH DVD+RW/+R MP5125A on runing K3b setup NO Writer found. Data CD are read by this drive. Audio does not work in this drive Same MP5125A works well in XP I would like to fully use Ricoh CD Recordable /Rewirte unit in Mandrake 9.1 Any solution to this Burning question Maurice |
Update k3b from their website. http://k3b.sourceforge.net/ Only the newest version has DVD writer support. You will need to update it through CVS, there are instructions on how to do this on their site.

K3b
Hi Liquidzoo
Downloaded the latest K3b installed. RPMs Cdrecord, Cdrtools from Mandrake 9.1 Cd. My Richo DVD+RW/+R Not recognised so not able to add writer. Have tried X-CD-Roast and NO writer. Await reply from Richo about using Linux system to run MP5125A Will let you know the result Regards Maurice |
You may need to enable scsi emulation. You can do this by adding hdd=ide-scsi to the "append" field in /etc/lilo.conf of similarly in grub. Yours is probably hdc=ide-scsi. I have me writer as the slave (2nd cd device). Mandrake set mine up automatically at install. You may have tried this already, though.
I had the same problem with audio on my cd-rom. In windows I didn't need to connect the cd drive to the sound card. It used digital processing. After connecting the 2, everything was solved. Open up your box and see if you have a wire running from your drive to the sound card. |
Hi blixblix
Have conducted a search and found only /etc/fstab that has reference to scsi. /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 No reply from Ricoh So do not look like this DVD+RW/+R unit does not work with linux as a burner. One has to have a Linux compatable Recorder Thanks for information please send any other suggestions Regards Maurice |
I can only tell you how mine looks and how a normal CD-burner is set up as don't have a DVD-burner.
Your drive isn't listed in the list of compatible hardware at http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/hardware.php3 but that doesn't mean it won't work. If you get it working report it there. So, this is in my fstab: /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrom auto ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 And this is what my lilo.conf looks like: image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21-0.13mdk label="old_linux" root=/dev/hda6 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.21-0.13mdk.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi acpi=off" vga=788 read-only append has to have "hdd=ide-scsi"(probably hdc if it's you're only cd drive) for it to be recognized as a burner. Like I said above this was all done for me. |
