K3b configuration problem in Mandrake 9.2

Hello everyone,

Total n00b here so please go easy...

I tried to run K3b for the first time and it said I needed to install cdrecord and cdrdao. Like a dork I didn't read the whole thing where it said to install the entire package called cdrtools. I thought I installed cdrecord and cdrdao successfully ('cause it said installation was successful) but when I tried to run K3b the same error came up, which is when I saw the part about cdrtools. sigh.

So, when I went back to configurations/packaging and did a search on cdrtools but nothing was found. I logged out entirely (aah my widows roots), logged back in, started K3b and received the same error about missing packages.

"Configure Kb3..." showed that these packages were *not* installed!? I googled my prob and only found an rpm for cdrecord (not cdrtools), tried to install it but came back saying it was already installed. Not sure where to go next.

Open up rpmdrake and make a search for cdrdao and/or cdrecord or just cdr
Select what you think relevant and let urpmi do its job.

On the command line side , open a root console and try to run cdrecord.
If you find nothing (no command cdr* like) then you have not installed them...

Hi,

That's what I did the first time to install cdrecord and cdrdao, when I received the pop-up saying "installation successful. The second time I tried I downloaded the newest version I could find and installed it at the command line by myself. That's when I received the message that it was already installed. I tried to run cdrecord like you mentioned (but not as root) and I received the following error:

"cdrecord: No CD/DVD-recorder device specified," which makes me think mandrake didn't pick up my CD-RW during installation. I will look into this further. (I did select the multimedia option during installation).

Okay I'm back for a quick follow-up.

I just went to /mnt/cdrom and ls.

an error came up saying:

ls: .: Stale NFS File handle

I got the same error when ls-ing /mnt/floppy so I went and modified my /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab and took out the none before drive/superuser. WOO HOO!!! So like everything was installed but this file was messing everything up. I can now use K3b.
