Try to run firefox in a terminal window and load a page with a java applet. At the terminal window look for an error message like "xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion 'c->xlib.lock' failed".
If you got this error message, look this guide and the workaround near to bottom of page: http://www.my-guides.net/en/content/...1/26/1/5/#java
