is there a way to upgrade mandrake 10.1 to....


hi everyone i just installed mandrake 10.1 not sure if offical or community. is there a way to upgrade it to mandriva 10.2 without having to download the iso's? this version doesnt have firefox and im not thrilled with koncourer. i didnt see instal for firefox and i tryed the update sources and it told me the urpmi is locked i tryed the urpmi -a command and it still said its locked. oh and i just found out its the community one.

i unlocked the urpmi by registering the copy now i still cant find how or where to upgrade to 10.2

That should install Firefox. If you need more packages, then go easyurpmi and configure urpmi sources for the version of Mandriva you are using. You need to main, contrib, updates and plf repositories. You can upgrade to 10.2 using urpmi, but if you are not very experienced with Mandriva and using urpmi, you may end up with a broken system, so maybe a clean install using the isos would be best. You could also doing a network install if you really don' want to download the isos.

if you are a member of mandriva you can get the urpmi for upgradeing to 2005 as far as i know only Mandrake 10.1 Official is free but i may be wrong

One thing that I think needs to be made clear to new users, is that there isn't really any difference between an "old version" of a distro and a "new version" of a distro other than the newer versions of particular applications and the kernel.

So, by continuously running URPMI on your system, you're always have the latest and greatest. Keep track of the kernel sitch and replace that as necessary too.
