go into configure your computer / hardware and see if its detected and see what mandriva calls the cam .
the search add remove programs for the device id and see what you find.

I purchased a cheap ($18.00 US) Web Cam (Logiteck) at Walmart because I have never used one before, and I wanted to learn a bit about them. Since I have seen so many posts similar to this one, I was sure that I would learn a lot (the hard way), but much to my surprise, after connecting the device to my system (Mandriva 2010.1 (Spring / Summer)), I found that when I open the video tab in the Kopete Configuration dialog, I see my ugly face staring right back at me.

When I open Configure your computer > Hardware > Browse and configure hardware, there is a Web Cam listing with Unknown under it in the tree pane (left), so even though Mandriva does not report the name of my Web Cam, the device still seems to work correctly.

My first suggestion is that you look in the MCC device manager (the Browse and configure hardware applet) to confirm that your lifecam is detected as suggested above (probably reported as Unknown under Web Cam as was my experience), then if it is (or even if it is not), open the Instant Messaging application of your choice, and check to see if it works in the application's video configuration area. If it does, you are all set.

If you have already taken similar steps, or this does not help, please post back with more information, including what steps you have taken to troubleshoot your issue, and whether the cam works in Windows (if you have access to a Windows computer), or on another computer (could confirm that the Cam is at least working).
