Is i586 right for me?

I'm going to try and install Mandrake 10.0 after failing at installing SuSe 9.1. I was able to boot up from the CD I made, which was burned from the ISO image using "Nero 6". It would only install about 5%, then just hang. I tried too many times to count. So now I'll try Mandrake. From the site I was at (linux-mandrake.com) I downloaded what I guess is the latest version, 10.0. The file says it is "i586". My PC has a Pentium 2 processor, 4.0Gb HD. 384 RAM, plain & simple CD-R. It's a second system I threw together. Will this system be sufficient to run Mandrake 10.0 if it is based i586? If not, is there an older version I could try? SuSe was i386, and that wouldn't install.
