I wasn't even aware you could mount HFS under Linux as read-write! Surprise!
Anyway, normally you would want to format your iPod with fat32 or something when you use it under Linux. If you are not already aware, HFS+ is a Mac/Apple filesystem. If you REALLY insist on using HFS+, then you need to install the "hfsplusutils" rpm, which you should be able to easily locate using rpmdrake. Then you will have the necessary hpfsck command.
