Internet Slowwwww
Hi All..Wonder if anyone can help ?
I have installed Mandrake community 10.1. It all loads fine and everything works..the problem is internet speed.
I have a 1.5 MB DSL Connection. I give the machine a static I.P. address..say 192.168.1.30 Then give the gateway (as my router) 192.168.1.1 & then DNS the same (192.168.1.1). It all works and it does have internet access but what takes 1 second to load on any other computer take around 30 seconds to load on this 1.
I have installed & tried several other distro's and they all work perfect (with the same settings), but to be honest I prefer Mandrake. I have reinstalled several times and every time exactly the same issue.
The new remote desktop is like "lightning", even accross the net...So it definetly has quick access. I have look on Google and there seams to be other people with similar issues, but nothing that explains why.
Anyone have any idea's ???

Ironically the SAME problem exists in WinBlows XP.
This caught me by surprise after one of the WinBlows Updates added IPV6.
My machine's startup time went from 15 SECONDS to 4-6 minutes from the time the WinBlows logo appears to the time an application will actually launch.
It turns out that IPV6 was looking for a non-existant DHCP server and holding up anything launched from the start menu.
Go figure...

Good point...my pleasure...O.K. Here is what you have to do.
Apparently IPv6 causes some problems with DNS.
winroute doesn't like it, but ICS doesn't have a care in the world!
So, If you want to use winroute pro 2.52 (i think that's the version) and a linux mandrake client 10.0 or above, you will have to disable ipv6
i found easy instructions on line...
you need to be root
edit the file:
/etc/modprobe.conf
add the following two lines:
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off
save, and restart the computer.
Then it works viola !
