internet connection missing
I installed mandrake 10 on the second drive of my pentium 2-350. The install went fine and no problems occured and everything works but my internet connection its missing.
I created an internet connection and no problems it finished just fine.
Problem.. there is no entry, no icon nothing in the applications bar to click on to get online.
I have been thru the procedure a number of times and still no results.
I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
I finally had to find the kppp exe and copied it to the desktop and that works so I can get online and do all the good things.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have..mikeymouse

sorry maybe i didnt make myself clear. After i used mandrake control centre and created a new connection there was no connection icon created. there was nothing in the applications or anywhere else that I could click on to go online. I have been installing mandrake since version 6.5 and never run into this before. joe83 thanks for your reply, I don't quite understand your reply as there is nothing to choose an icon for.
What i really want to know is.. when i created an internet connection why wasnt one created or if one was created why it cannot be found..
I do appreciate the reply.. thanks again
I just hope I dont get you as confused as i am ..(g).

Same Problem - Can't Find A Dialer
Mikeymouse: Your question is very clear to me because I am having the exact same problem. My modem configured just fine during installation and shows in HardDrake, but there is no dialer shown under the Internet section on the Start Bar as it is on every other Mandrake Distro I have used all the way back to 6.5. Normal way is to click on the Start Button in the lower left corner (star), then click on Internet, then click on KPPP and click "dial" - that dialer is just no where to be found. You say you copied the kppp exe to the desktop and it works? Could you give me a step by step on how to accomplish that? As in your case, at this point I have no way to dial in to my ISP even with the connection proceedure correct. Thanks for the assist, and I sure hope someone out there can give us a hand. If we both go back as far as MKD 6.5, we sure are not "newbies" when it comes to using Mandrake. james91911

Hi James 91911.
I am glad to see somebody else with this probem thought I was really being stupid hahahah.
using the tree view in home directory I went down to root, kept on going and clicked on usr and then to bin. when you find kppp I dragged a copy onto my home directory.
I tried making a copy onto my home director but it never worked, so I dragged kppp to the home directory and it didnt work but it had placed a copy on the desktop. When i clicked on the desktop copy it brings up your internet connection and your home free.
I just use the gear icon that comes with the copy of kppp at least I know what its for ..
I hope this helps.. I will keep a close watch on this forum just incase I blew the directions..

I had a few similar problems and I don't know if this helps.
The easiest way to get the internet stuff working is to initiate your internet setup through the Configuration tools Mandrake Contol Centre. This will ensure that the appropriate packages are installed along with the correct menu entries.
Choose Network and Internet, New Connection
Fill in all the details
When you have finished. You will hopefully find all the menu items have been added to your internet menu.
I hope this helps as I too am a newbie.
Ignore my post as I see, further up the thread, you have done all this. I really don't know why Linux has so many fiddly problems.

You obviously have KPPP installed, it`s just not in your menu. To get an icon in your menu for KPPP just click on start then click on "menu editor" . Using the "Add application button" you can put KPPP in the remote access sub-menu. The title is KPPP And the command is kppp
After that just select the KPPP icon from the choices you get by clicking on the icon button
Every now and then an app seems to install without being put in the menu
Hope this helps cheers

Can't Find "Menu Editor"
JK- So glad you could help Mickeymouse out and solve his KPPP icon problem. I went in and followed your instructions but I can't find the "Menu Editor" - I did a search and didn't come up with it either. Then went to the DRAKEINSTALL program and did a search there without success. Also went to the Editor Tree and looked for "Menu Editor" - no joy. Could you or Mickeymouse please point me in the right direction and/or provide me with the correct name of the editor I need to install the KPPP icon? Thanks so much. james91911

Hi james91911
From start menu go to system, to configuration to configure your computer.
Now you will be in Mandrake control center.
Click on system.
Click on menus
click on system menus
Now you can follow JK's instructions.
Hope this helps

I`m sorry guys, just re-read my post and instead of saying click on the start button, i should have said "right click" on the start button and then click on "menu editor"
Sounds like you got it sorted though
Cheers

JK and Mickeymouse - Thanks to both of you for staying with this for me. I now have my KPPP dial up icon where it should be and it works just fine. Only problem is that I don't get a dial tone and have a "Exit Status 10" which of course will be a different post. At least, thanks to both of you, I have a dialer to work this second problem through with. Have a super day! james91911.
