intel drivers
i am trying to install the dreaded modem. i am useing a modem that is the intel 536 chipset. however i have not found any drivers that work with the new kernel.
i am trying to get it to work for mandrake linux 10, uses kernel 2.6.3-4mdk. Does this version already have built in support? has there been drivers released that support this modem? if not i am considering placeing in a 33.6 old modem or an external modem. i am also considering downgradeing to suse 8.2, which has a package for this modem. the problem is this is a system for a friend and they need it by tonight. i personaly hate dealing with modems, if i need to buy a new one i will. anyways, do any of your know what to do |
Don't know how much this will help, but check out http://linmodems.org . That site has a ton of info on those pesky built-in modems that refuse to work properly under Linux more often that not.
Honestly, the best way to go would be to buy an external decent modem, because from what I've heard, even the winmodems that do work under Linux are tricky. |
yea i got an external serial modem, need to repair the power supply. it works but i will have to configure it.
actually i dont use mainboards with a lot of one board stuff. this is a PCI modem. heh, the box even says, "full hardware" |
Those who type text on boxes rarely take alternative OS in account :).
