Intel C++ Compiler 9.0 on Mandriva 2006

I installed the Intel C++ compiler version 9.0 on my new Mandriva 2006 system
(a Dell dimension 4700 -- pentium iv). Getting linker errors like
undefined reference to `std::_Winit::_Winit()
undefined reference to `std::_Locinfo::_Locinfo(char const*)
Has anyone gotten this compiler to work on a Mandriva 2006 system?
If so, what changes to icpc.cfg were needed? This compiler worked
fine on Mandrake 10.0 without any tweaks.

On a Pentium IV, the Intel compiler produces significantly faster
code than gcc, mainly because the intel compiler knows how
to vectorize into the MMX registers. I run Monte Carlo computations
which take weeks to run, so the execution time difference is
significant.
