Installing "Wine" with Mandrake

Hey guys I have downloaded "wine" with Mandrake and I have downloaded it and extracted it to my documents folder, how do I install it from there? I am a newbie and I am trying to figure it out.

I have Mandrake 9.2 version, thanks....

If you search the Wine site, there should be detailed documentation for installation.

True -

That's right - the instructions on http://winehq.com/site/howto are pretty good. Also, the manual on Wine (man Wine) is clearer than most mans. The Wine FAQ, however, is pretty much useless (to me, anyway) regarding technical issues.

urpmi xwine

Download WineSetupTk

Run XWine, go to configuration, choose WineSetupTK, use the defaults, save it. :-)

I just installed Wine on my MDK 10 box at home. Just change to the directory and run './tools/wineinstall'. I may not have the exact file name correct, but thats how I did it.

http://www.frankscorner.org/ is a good site for Wine in conjunction with http://www.winehq.com/

I appreciate the input or advice but I still couldn't figure out how to install "wine" onto my Mandrake software. I never could figure out how to install nvidia drivers and now this. What's so upsetting is that there's no universal format.

I don't what you mean by changing my directory and then running "/tools/wineinstall/", is that a period before the slash or a typo?

No, when you change to the wine directory that you decompressed the files to, the "./" is just a short way or specifying exactly where you are. The 'wineinstall' is not a directory, its a script. Navigate to the tools directory and look for yourself.

I just followed the directions at frankscorner and its been a blast for me. His instructions are for an earlier version, but works just as well.

[edit]
Are you referring to installing Wine via URPMI? If so, then my instructions are wrong. I have not done that, so you would have to look around for a source that contains the wine rpm for MDK 10 (if there is one). I would recommend just installing it manually.

Just my input

Sitting inside Mandrake

Right now the "wine" software is downloaded inside Mandrake 9.2 OS, I just can't figure out how to install it.

I believe it is unpacked because I can see all the seperate files.

Ok

In that folder where you see all the seperate files, look for a tools directory. If you dont see one, your probably looking in the wrong directory. Then look for the script...

All else fails, do a search for it.
