installing tar.bz2 files

is there ANY way to do this with mandrake? I am also having trouble installing the linux client for yahoo messenger. Can someone please help me with these?

I haven't tried the yahoo messenger client, however, I suspect you want to unzip the file then untar it. Try

$ bunzip2 /path/to/file.tar.bz2
$ tar xvf /path/to/file.tar

You'll then see the data expand and you can take it from there.

Instead of using the yahoo mesenger client you can use GAIM or Kopete which support a lot of IM protocols.
