kernel source location

I am also trying to get my Pcmcia on my new laptop to work in linux. Kernel 2.6.8.1 to be exact with Slackware 10.0.

the /usr/src/linux dir is just a pointer to your actual current linux kernel source files. This should be evident by doing ls /usr/src/ and you should see a @linux listing in there, as well as other dirs. That is just a "link" to the actual folder that contains the kernel source.

I have both a linux-2.4.26 and a linux-2.5.8.1 dir in my /usr/src, I currently have my @linux "link" pointed to /usr/src/linux-2.6.8.1

For you, when it asks for the source location and it shows [/usr/src/linux] as the default, instead of hitting enter to accept that default value, try putting in the explicit location of your kernel such as /usr/src/linux-2.4.26, etc. If you don't have another dir, you probably need to download the kernel source and unpack it in /usr/src before doing ./Configure for pcmcia install.

Hope that helps.
