installing older version of perl - Mandrake 9.2

Hi All

I have to install a version of perl that is older than what ships with MD 9.2.

How is this done?

I downloaded perl 5.8.0 as an rpm, but I don't know how to get the Mandrake Control Center to make it viewable. I did configure the file sources thing, but when I pulled up the files, I couldn't find my older perl file on the cd that I had put in the drive.

Also, is it really risky to uninstall 5.8.1 and to then install 5.8.0? I'm thinking that I could break a lot of scripts. I'm just not sure how complete the Mandrake uninstall routine is.

Many thanks :)
