Installing Mandriva 2009 RC2 on eee 901
Hi
I installed the 2009 RC2 version on my 901 (using an SD card) and the install seemed to be fine, but halfway through booting the screen goes blank with only a marker blinking. There is no error message or similar and the only thing that the computer is reacting to, is when I push the O/I button, whereby it shuts down, showing the usual graphic shutdown screen. When I do a Ctl+Alt+F1 and write "X" it starts some kind of graphics which looks like the blue KDE desktop (so it seems like the graphics settings are fine) but the screen remains blue and nothing else happens. I have tried changing the settings in XFdrake but the problem remains. What could be the problem? I'm quite new to Linux so the problem might be some kind of err 40. P.S. Similar problem happens when I boot on a live CD |
Now I tried using the One KDE edition but get an error message:
SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x0 SQUASHFS error: unable to read superblock Freeing unused kernel memory: 364k freed init started: BusyBox v1.6.1 (2008-05-16 12:38:44 UTC) multi-call binary Cannot run '/etc/init.d/rcS' : No such file or directory Please press Enter to activate this console. |
I have the same issue. Is there any solution to this?

This might give you some ideas.
I am installing from a USB stick but suffered the same error, I fixed it by disabling the internal card reader in the BIOS. F2 during boot then Advanced>Onboard Devices Configuration But how do I install to my SD card with the reader disabled? I have a 2G surf so the install is too big for the internal disk. I only discovered this after wiping the disk. I realise disabling the card reader will prevent you booting but does this give a clue as to how to fix it? Kubuntu 8.10 doesn't suffer from this problem. |
These steps by CS Weldon (on http://lordikc.free.fr/wordpress/?page_id=158) worked for me:
