Installing KDE (urpmi)
on the mandrake install I didnt choose KDE, well.. Im trying to get the girlfriend into linux and shes really into astethics and customising the GUI..... if thats what it takes to get someone started/interested in linux then thats what Im going to do.
So I urpmi'd the kde base and I can log in but I dont have wallpapers or the other bells and whistles that I would like for her. Anyone have any suggestions on the other KDE packages I need? |
Try kdeartwork, kdegraphics and kdeaddons for the basics.

For that matter, run rpmdrake (it's also in the menu under "Install Software").
And just choose ALL of the KDE applications. RPMDRAKE will prevent you from making conflicting selections. |
KDE vs GNOME
Is GNOME not a useable package with Mandrake? Most of the issues in this forum seem to discuss KDE. Just curious if GNOME is useable.

Yup works fine.
I always perform a full Gnome install, just to get all of the Gnome programs available under KDE and in case I ever want to switch over for any reason. |
