installing kde themes

hi! i'm pretty new to linux and completelly new to mandriva. anyway i'm really liking this distro but i can't solve this problem.

how do i install kde themes so they show in kde cc>appearance and themes>theme manager?

almost all files downloaded from kde-look.org come as tar.bz2. i extract them and install with these commands:

./configure `--prefix=PATH'
make
make install (as su)

and i can't use them, can't find them in the theme manager. is there a step i'm missing? please help.

i'm running mandriva 1 2007.

Aren't theme files just a collection of images and config files? There is no source to compile as you seem to be trying. There should be a file with a .ktheme extension. Open this file with the theme manager ('add new theme' I think).

Quote:

./configure `--prefix=PATH'
You are not typing that literally are you? PATH is not a path. It is looking for something like '/usr/share/themes' or something. I find it hard to believe you are not getting an error with that...

Themes that you compile from source don't usually show up in the kcontrol section that you mentioned (its for a completely different type of KDE theme). If you go to the differen sections of Kcontrol -> Appearance & Themes, you will find elements of your theme under various sub menus e.g. color-scheme, window decorations, styles etc.
