Installing GAIM

I have a couple questions regarding installing GAIM. I'm currently running GAIM 1.1.4. I'd like to update to 1.5.0, however, if I were to install version 1.5.0 without removing 1.1.4, would I run in to problems? If so, how do I remove GAIM 1.1.4? Any help in this area would be great.

If you're running 2005LE or 2006 just run MandrakeUpdate and you'll get the latest (1.5.0) version.

Otherwise if you plan on installing it from source or autopackage or some other method besides the Mandrake package you've got installed now then yes you should uninstall it first.

I don't see the problem.. uninstalling gaim is pretty straight forward and installing the new one as a rpm packet or with urpmi is pretty easy as

I always remove GAIM via `packaging/remove software` then download the latest rpm from the gaim site http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php choose the one for Mandrake 10.0, it works on Mandrake 10.0, 10.1, Mandriva 10.2 LE and probably others.

Never had any problem keeping up with latest.
