Is the machine you are trying to install Linux on the very same machine on which you burned your CD or DVD?

Ok that rules out tracking, alignment and media problems.
Yes others have had this same problem.
Usually it's either due to a bad download, or that their CD-ROM drive is one of the infamous "braindead" type which Linux has a hard time with.
About a week ago someone else posted EXACTLY the same problem, we told him to purchase a set of disks of the net.
Instead he went out and bought a boxed set and these installed perfectly for him.

I've got the same problem too. I tried many things (even prayed ), but it's useless. I've cachanged all hardware i hade. i tried it on other machines, even on HP Proliannt ML 110, but still tha same situation. It's not about bad ISO. I've looked the google hoping that anyone got this problem also and solved it somehow, but it was useless. everyone's got this problem and noone can do anything. So, I've installed Fedora Core 3. everything works smooth. BUT IT STILL WANT TO INSTALL MANDRAKE It's all about creep

I have fixed it!! I found similar reports in a thread on a Fedora support forum and tried this. Press F1 after you boot from the cd, then at the prompt use the command. This did worked around the issues I was having perfectly! Good luck.

That didnt fix it for me.
I have the exact same problem as the thread starter. the md5sum is fine, burned the DVD at 4x using Nero.
And... it does work fine on my desktop computer (I'm trying to install mdk on my laptop).
Im sorry that i started a whole new thread for my problem, didn't realise there was already one about the same issue.

Well, i just ran the memtest and there was errors in test 3, 4 and 5. So, the reason that its not working in my laptop is probably a memory problem indeed.
