Install problem- Mandrake 10.1 DVD

I downloaded it from the actual Mandrake site from one of their FTP mirrors without the club benefits. But whenever I try to install it it gets to the licensing part the quits. I hit accept and then next then it shows a little watch type thing as if it was doing something but the CD stops spinning and nothing happens. I even left it for about 20 minutes and came back it was still the same. I have to hit the reset button or power button on my PC to load normally.

I am trying to dual-boot it with Windows XP Pro (sp1). I have 20gb empty space on the HD i want to load it to since the second HD I have is for other stuff.

Do I need to have the partition already made even though it gives em the option to fix it how I want during install? Or am i just doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same problem. I downloaded all three CDs again and had no success. Eventually, when I downloaded the DVD version os the ISO, it worked fine. If you have access to a DVD burner, you may want to try this. If not, you can always try to re-download the CDs and see how it works. If nothing else, someone here (like me) can make you a copy of the DVD version and mail it.

I have been trying the DVD version. Should I try the 3 cd version or shuld i just try another distro? teh only other I have tried is Knoppix v3.3 but I didn't liek it since it could not be installed. And I want to be able to actually do and save stuff on Linux. Mandrake looked the best thats why i was trying it.

And I do have a DVD burner that is why I was tryign the DVD verion. It woudl be better then the 3 cd version of it.

In that case, I have no idea. If you can, you should just try to download the DVD version again. It is possible that you have a bad copy. I thought you were using the CD version because you used the word "CD" in your original post. You could try it if you wanted, but only if you are willing to waste three CDs. I recommend that you keep trying, though, since I have found that Mandrake is my favorite distribution by far.

I have 5 CD-RWs so I can use them. i downloaded the 3 CD version to try. If it doesn't work I will try the DVD version again but I will get it from a different source they list on their site.

I got in on here using the DVD version. I had to use text mode though. And now I am having problems actually getting into it. It asks for my login and I put in the user name that I told it to use then it won't let me type my password. Am i missing something?

Do you mean that it goes all the way to the log in screen and it is in text mode instead of graphical mode? If so, you may want to try to log in as root at first. You just type "root" for the username and then the root password when it asks for your password. Then, when you do that, just type in "startx" or "kde" and you will go to KDE. You can mess with the user administration settings through there.
