install issue
I searched for this, because I was sure it was a common error, but I cant find anything. Im sure I am missing something very simple but...

I d/l'ed the four files for mandrake on their official page, three of them with cd1, cd2... and so on... in the file name. I burned each of these three files onto three separate cd's.

Then I put cd1 in my d: drive, restart my computer, and windows loads as normal. I was expecting for the cd to load an installation screen (without xp loading), just like it does on my XP system restore disk.

What am I missing?

also, if I want to set up a dual-boot system for XP and mandrake, will the installation cd do that for me, or do I need to partition beforehand?

Are you burning these as an .iso? Do you have boot from cd enabled in your BIOS?

RuFI0 07-21-2004 01:43 AM

Maybe you didn't burn the iso properly. Did you burn the image onto the cd or as a cd?

If my system restore disc boots from drive d: on restart, does that mean its enabled?

I simply d/led the files to my desktop and then dragged them to my d:drive. i didnt change any extensions or anything.

im using xp so i pulled the files onto the d:drive, then used the "write these files to cd" command, i didnt attempt to make an audio cd or anything.

since you're running xp, try using nero instead. Navigate the downloaded .iso files and open them with nero (right-click and open with). You can even just start up nero and there should be an option to open cd images. then burn it.

im d/ling nero now, so i will give that a try. thanks! ill be back if this doesnt work...

oh yeah, about the dual boot setup, is that something the installation will handle? or do i need to do some partitioning myself?
