impossible to launch a terminal session

Hi guys,

I installed Madrake 9.2Rc2 and I have a big problem, I can't launch a terminal session, I not even have a button for it or a menu..
I tried many ways, and I finally found how to add a button for terminal session application... but when I click, nothing appears, nothing...

Another of my problem is that I have no sound under KDE, but under Gnome it works perfectly..

for information I installed Madrake 9.2 on my Asus Laptop L8400K.

please help

Go to the K menu, click on "Run" and type:
xterm

If it says that isn't found, then type:
konsole

Either of those should be installed on nearly all systems.

HTH

Cool

Moving to Mandrake Forum

Cool

Well, I try it both, xterm ad konsole, but nothing works..

I think I will reinstall my Linux, because I have still my sound problem...
As well, I can't change the menu, when I open the Drakmenu, I can see some buttons that I don't see usually.. like Konqueror,Chinese and terminal (of course).

Do you think it could be a problem related to XFree ?? I am using the 4.3 instead of 3.3.6, and as I am a newby I don't know what is Xfree.

or maybe it's a Mandrake bug?

Xfree 4.3 is fine. Sounds like KDE got scrambled somehow. Possibly a config option. Possibly not,. before you do a complete install run gnome, and then run mandrake control center {/usr/sbin/drakconf if you don't have a menu/desktop item for it}, in it go to software management and the link that help syou remove software packages. then locate kdebase* and remove it, then go to the one that adds software packages and reinstall it. Then exit X and log back in under KDE and see what happens.

That said let's try the SIMPLE fix first. In the Mandrake Control Center, click system, then MenuDrake. Click configure System menu, and let it do its thing. Then save it and exit. Do the same thing for the user menus with each user. Then logout and log back in. Now you shoudl see your menu items, but maybe not. If you do se them, look under Multimedia > Sound > Aumix. If the numbers next to the slides are 0 it menans they have been muted, either beef them up to a level you like or Click on mute then mute all {this is screwy because iof there is a check next to it tis not muted, and if there is it is not muted on mine anyway}. See if that helps.

Oh yeah,

I did you first advice, so I uninstall all the packages related to kdebase* and then I prefered to log out, then log in again under Ice. I reinstalled all the packages, but I had to choose between mdk-kdm and kde-kdm packages. I choose the first one and then could install all the packages, otherwise I couldn't install 2 or 3..

Anyway I have my terminal sessions and konsole too. that's cool !

for my sound problem, I found K mix, then unmute, all interesting devices, but still no sound, I will check other parameters using linux help...

thank you for your help
:-D

sound prob

Well, it works for the sound, I don't know how I did, but seems to work.

I just unmute all and increase the volume in K mix window, but mute the mic, it causes a feedback..

Anyway, it works now, even I have some lose sometimes.

thank for all again!

:p :D :p

Just to let you know I had to install belive it or not the actual terminal program with icon from cd2.Go through rpm drake and you will see it.Type terminal in search. After it lists it install it and then click your GNOME or KDE or whichever your using start button in KDE it will be listed as terminals.
