boot with xp cd, choose safe mode command prompt

c:\>fdisk /mbr
this will replace the master boot record on your drive

c:\>bootcfg /rebuild
this will scan all drives for installations of XP/2000/98/Me and create a new boot.ini

reboot
and that should do it...this reply does make a few assumptions that im not gonna get in to.

Hi, I'm no great expert, but if you've ditched one install, then the remnant is from Grub, etc... In general terms, by using the installation disks from the remaining install , and select the equiv of recover, repair etc, you should find it will restore MBR . Ditch the reinstall after that and restart. The machine will load direct into your choice.

I still did't manage to get ridd of the grub
I tryed to boot with xp cd and I haven't found no safe mode
by the way ... there is no fdisk command in xp[there is one with win98 but none in xp]

so if somebody else has any sugestion I am open to it

I tryed with recovery from winxp cd but it asked for a floppy recovery disk and I have none.... how I make one ???

thank you ...

Oops, fdisk is win98. The command you want is

c:\>fixboot c:

or

c:\>fixmrb \Device\HardDisk0

Hit F8 when you boot the XP CD for boot options

the easiest way to get rid of linux is to stick in the first MDK install disk and at the splash screen
hit f1. Type in rescue. when the menu appears using the arrow key select restore windows boot loader. reboot. Once in WinXP delete the linux partions and change them back to ntfs.
