HP PSC 1410 Printer does not print, Mandriva 2006
I recently installed the Free Mandriva 2006 distibution, and can't seem to get my printer working.
It worked fine with Mandrake 10.1, but with 2006 any job, including test page, remains indefinately in a state of "Processing..." Scanning works fine from both the command line and GUI. As per suggestions on linuxprinting.org, I have set my CUPS error_log to "LogLevel debug", so output can be provided. Here are a few technical details:
HP PSC 1410
USB 1.0 connection
Dell Optiplex GX 240 (refurbished)
i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.80GHz
Free Mandriva 2006
2.6.12-12mdk
I've scoured the web and have tried reinstalling both the printer and the OS, all with no effect. Has anyone come across this?

Not sure which I'm using, HPLIP or HPIJS (I suspect HPIJS), but according to the Supported Products page, the hp psc 1410 isn't supported for either. At anyrate, I've used whatever is automatically detected/selected for Mandriva 2006, which did recognize the model and make of the printer.
Still, I'll have a closer look at the pages you provided, try to install HPLIP and get back.
Thanks
Majick

Haven't looked at the pages but do you mean it does not list the 1410 or does it say 1410 not supported? If it is the first then the generic psc 1400 should cover the whole set of 1400 - 14**.

It just isn't listed sorry, realised that after posting.
I'm having trouble with the installation of the HPLIP drivers though, can't get it to # make . At first I needed a C (or maybe it was the g++) compiler and managed to urpmi that, but still no luck, some package or other is missing. Here's an error message from the output of the config, not sure if it's the only problem:
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no -----> for starters
Will have to get back to you as I am not on my box. Should I post the output for the entire ./config command? It's rather long.

Pure genius.
Got HPLIP drivers installed and after trawling through forums realized that gcc-c++ comes in more than one version-- installing gcc2.96-c++ and gcc3.3-c++ got the damn thing to configure and 'make' properly. Thank you, I owe you one!
