Howto run mediacheck on MDK10.1 or from 9.2?

I just burned MDK10.1 and want to "mediacheck" my 6 CDs but I have not done that before.

Booting CD1 leads to a "boot:" prompt at the bottom of the screen if my initial choice is "other" (instead of "install"). At "boot:" I type "linux mediacheck" and press return, at this point the system looks very much like it is beginning the install process (??). I didn't expect that so I quit at the first opportunity.

Instead of via boot, is there a way to run mediacheck from under MDK9.2?
Where are the commands?

I do not believe Mandrake Linux has a build in 'media checker' like the Red Hat/Fedora Core Projects do. When you downloaded the Mandrakelinux CDs there should have been md5sums provided for each of the CDs. After you finish downloading the CDs, and before you burn them - run an md5sum check on each of them to ensure you have a good download. If the md5sum you receive from testing the ISO file is different than the one provided where you downloaded the ISO from, you have a bad download and will need to redownload the ISO again.

If you don't know what md5sum is, just google for it and you'll get lots of information. There are a few different md5sum checkers at sourceforge.net, or just search for them in any search engine.

I was curious how to test if the burned CDs match the downloads. I wonder if there is a way to do that in XP?

You have me on that one - I think that would be rather difficult unless the testing utility knows what the media specs are supposed to be - with nothing to compare to it would be difficult. I also don't know if you can test the burned media against that contained in the ISO. But I may be wrong, this may be a question for someone other than I to tackle.
