How well will Mandrake 10.0 work with my laptop?

Hey folks.

1) I have a laptop, but I use a Serial plug-in mouse. The mouse isn't connected via a PS/2 port and I don't use the glide-pad. I tried my laptop in Knoppix, and the Serial mouse wouldn't work there - will it work in Mandrake 10?

2) How easy is it to get the Internet working in Mandrake 10 with a Lucent LT Win Modem? The driver version is 5.62

Basically - I've decided that I wish to use Mandrake Linux on my laptop, and to really give Windows the boot out the gate.

So - any help on my questions?

Thanks all. :-)

You've not actually told us the make or model of your laptop or the hardware.

Could you add those details?

Sorry about that.

I only included the information I did as Knoppix worked with everything on my laptop except my serial mouse and my modem.

Ok - My laptop is a Medion, model number is MD9326.

Intel Pentium III
500mhz Processor
256mb so-dimm ram
40gb Fujitsu HDD
on-board sound (picked up by Knoppix - was soft, but at least picked up)
ATI Graphics card (doesn't matter if I cannot do stuff in 3D, I only need 2D to work for things like Frozen Bubble, etc.)
DVD-Reader (sometimes I wonder... wouldn't pick up the DVD-Bootable Mandrake 10 Community CD I have which was annoying)
Keyboard (external - picked up by Knoppix)
Serial mouse (don't use glide pad, Serial mouse wasn't picked up by Knoppix)

I cannot think of much else to add.

Thanks for your help.

No mention of mouse problem. From

Thanks for those two links.

Yes, I checked on Knoppix - and my glide pad is detected as a PS/2 mouse. However, I prefer to use an external Serial mouse since I use an external keyboard as well. I broke the standard keyboard because "apparently" I type too fast and too hard. Too fast, I doubt it.... too hard, maybe, heh.

But anyway - I decide to use an external mouse since I use an external keyboard. The keyboard is a PS/2 one so I use a Serial mouse; the only problem I had in Knoppix was getting it to recognise my external Serial mouse. (not PS/2)

Thanks all.

oh, about the fast typing thing - I didn't mean I don't type fast. :P
I type at 90 words per minute, so not slow - but not too fast. heh

Just needed to clear that up.

People?

Ok - to recap, my questions are: will Mandrake 10 work with a SERIAL Mouse? Important this, above posters didn't take into note the type of mouse - it's Serial, not PS/2.

Secondly, how easy will it be to get a Lucent LT WinModem working? Driver information is above in first post.

Thanks all.

For the modem,check www.linmodems.org.
In the mouse config prog. there's a section for serial mice, so it should work.
