How to use Live CD with USB flash drive?

I am trying to use Mandriva One (Live CD) with my 1 GB flash drive.

I want to either save all my settings (and install some programs) on that drive, or just install Mandriva on that drive and boot from it.

I know my BIOS can handle booting from USB, so that isn't a problem.

When I tried to install it on the USB drive, however, it wouldn't let me "without rebooting".

It seems like it's very difficult -- what should I do?

I certainly don't want to be back at square one every time I start (with no saving of any kind) and I (unfortunately) can't leave Windows altogether -- hence my solution of using a USB key for my Linux distro.

Another question -- I was looking ALL OVER and couldn't find how to "save all changes to USB key". Does Mandriva have such a setting? I only saw something like that when I hit the power button on my PC. It brings up a screen, but you have to click a box and by the time you SEE the message, the machine is already shutting down! How can I call up that screen without hitting my power button?

I tried ALT-CTRL-DEL, but that didn't do anything. I also looked pretty hard in the system menus.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Matthew

Mandriva retail a USB key, with 2007 pre-installed. If that is of any help. My only other use was of circa 2004/5 Mandriva Live CD and a cheap 256Mb USB key as /home/dir, used on my Acer Aspire 3000 laptop, with OEM Windows installed. Worked Okay.
