Look in the Slackware forum. The thread on compiling a kernel should apply to any Linux distro.

Hey, If you don't have any specific needs and only want to upgrade your kernel, you can just install from the RPM packages. Just make a search in google, I found them even on Mandrake's Download webpage.

If you use mandrake update it will install any new kernel that is available, like frandalla said if you don't need to customize it.

also if your not using it urpmi/rpmdrake is nice, it will download software resolve dependencies and install it in one step. to setup network sofware sources go to easy urpmi After you setup the main source on the net you can uncheck disk1 2 & 3 under "software source manager" and it will not ask you for a CD it will get it off the net. PLF and Texstar usually have most software packaged for mandrake on their servers.

by customizing it what exactly do you mean?
The main purpose for me trying to get a newer kernel is that i read somewere that 2.4.2 has support for the Nforce chipset on the motherboards. This would enable external AGP and in tern get the power out of my radeon 9700 that i want.
